New Launches to Transform Yishun's Chencharu Area with 10,000 Homes

Singapore's housing landscape is set to welcome a substantial addition with the planning of approximately 10,000 new launches in the Chencharu area of Yishun. The first public housing project in this new estate is scheduled for launch in June 2024. This development is part of a broader vision to meet the residential needs of the population, with at least 80% of the homes designated for public housing.

The Chencharu project, which will be located along Sembawang Road, is expected to comprise 1,270 units, including two-room flexi, three, four, and five-room flats. This project is notably close to the former Orto leisure park, now relocated near Haw Par Villa.

In addition to the Chencharu development, the government is exploring the potential transformation of the Gillman Barracks into a residential neighborhood post-2030. This area may feature a mix of public and private housing, leveraging the site's historical significance and proximity to green spaces like the Southern Ridges and Labrador Nature Park Network.

The Gillman Barracks, currently a reserve site under the Master Plan 2019, is being studied for its suitability for residential use, with environmental and heritage studies set to commence in the second quarter of this year. This initiative reflects the government's commitment to creating more opportunities for Singaporeans to live closer to the city center while preserving the area's unique character and charm.
